"Not A" Coping Mechanism - Collab Beer Fundraiser

The concept is as accurate and multifaceted in the name itself.  "This is NOT a Coping Mechanism" is a play on words that adds humour and thought provoking concepts that are balanced in many ways. 

Simply put.. much like skateboarding pushes the limits and continues to inspire its participants to view the world differently than its intended societal use. Much like skateboarders, The owners and beer from Locality Brewing are responsible community members seeking ways to push the boundaries. 

Locality Brewing has provided a skateboard bowl for the community to use and share their gifts for many years. This inspired the discussion of the health and wellness of skateboarding connected to mental health. Where one could find themselves a connection to community as well as an outlet generally serviced by one’s own aspirations lead only by the limitations one set’s for themselves.

For such an obstacle like a skateboard bowl there is the outer edge called coping. It’s placed at the highest point of a transition. Coping skills in skateboarding are a crucial part of how one remains in balance despite the challenges of the ups and downs. 

The play on words ties the stigma often associated to the excessive use of beverages such as beer. Quite literally the opposite of skateboarding.. if you find yourself in life’s ups and downs in a transition… or are at times without balance or direction.. adding beer only enhances the challenges of those ups and downs.

With that said.. Locality Brewing, HMI Skate Park Society and 5.0 Skateboards have teamed up to bring mental health awareness to the community by utilizing beer as ‘NOT a coping mechanism’ while promoting healthy choices and other activities such as skateboarding.

$2 from every can sold will be donated to HMI Skate Park Society to help provide and sustain healthy and positive spaces, programs, and events that keep all generations growing in the right direction.
